TV Review: That 70's Show Penultimate Season Finale

It's surprising that this show has lasted as long as it has. When I first started watching way back when it premiered, I would have told you it probably wouldn't make it past two seasons. I would have said this because the show seemed just a bit too corny and goofy to catch on. Little did I know that I would be wrong. It turned out to be something of a hit and has lasted 6 seasons. We are only getting one more season as Topher Grace(Eric) and Ashton Kutcher(Kelso) have stated that they do not wish to continue past that. I would agree with this. They are getting older now, the characters are out of high school, it won't be long before the welcome is overstayed. It is also better to go out on your own terms than to fade away and get cancelled. Anyway, we have an episode to check out!

The episode features the wedding of Eric Forman and Donna Pinchiotti. Since graduating last season and getting engaged, this show has been racing towards this moment. With side treks into Kelso's love life and career choice, Hyde's slacking, Jackie's self absorption, Fez's perversions, and the random ass kicking from Redd. It was a fun episode, with some comical drama tossed in. Kelso has an encounter with his pregnant would-be girlfriend's (Shannon Elizabeth) mother played by Morgan Fairchild. It starts of with Kelso's typical idiocy and ends up with him making an important decision regarding his child, surprisingly choosing the right thing. Hyde and Fez plan the bachelor party for Eric. Kitty takes Donna and Jackie to a strip club. It culminates with Eric getting cold feet and fleeing. Of course, no one notices until he fails to show up for rehearsal. There was a nice balance between the comedy and drama surrounding the wedding, ending on a nice touch. Makes me wonder where they'll go next season?

This show has really become something unique of the past few years. The writing has been good and the series never strayed too far into melodrama like other comedies do when they run too long. We have had character development and plots that have spread out over lengthy periods of time. I'd recommend giving it a shot next season if you're not already a fan.
