New Releases & Pick of the Week: 6/22/2004
Not much to choose from this week, but considering all that is going on I feel it necessary to choose something irreverent and hilarious. This week's pick is Bad Santa, or Badder Santa if you prefer, as there are two flavors to choose from, starring Billy Bob Thornton. It's here just in time to celebrate Christmas in July. I'm not sure how many of you saw this in the theaters, but it is a hilarious, extremely vulgar Christmas film that is destined to become a classic. It seems that the goal of this film was to offend every sensibility and insult every Christmas tradition it could think of. Definitely put the kids to bed when you pop this one in, it is definitely not for the kiddies, or the easily offended!

It is a slim week, at least for items interesting to me. We also get Secret Window, starring Johnny Depp. An excellent if underappreciated little thriller with a great performance from Depp. He's the kind of actor who can make a bad film watchable(anyone see The Ninth Gate?), not to say this is a bad movie, but Depp is excellent. There is also a pair of movies from Asia that I would like to track down, although around here that can be pretty tough. They are Anna in Kung Fu Land a comedy/martial arts movie from Hong Kong, and a horror film from Thailand called Immortal Enemy. There is one TV release that looks pretty good, Reno 911, if any of you have caught this on Comedy Central, you have an idea of how bizarre it can be. There is also nothing on the music front of any interest too me, the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack comes out, but it is filled with current radio sound-alikes, disappointing.
