New Movie Releases: 7/2/04
Very small week for new releases. Locally there are only 2 new releases. One having already opened this past Wednesday. There are a couple more opening in limited release, which may open in my area down the line.

Spider-Man 2. The movie hearkening in the blockbuster season opened earlier this week. It is getting great reviews from every critic, including this one (review forthcoming). It opened with a Wednesday record of $40.5 million. An amazing sum. It is now placed in a position to break numerous records. The big thing to remember when you hear dollar figures is that that doesn't always equal more tickets sold, but that's a discussion for another time. If you like action with depth, and a little spandex, see this movie, it is fantastic.

The Story of the Weeping Camel. The only other film opening near me this week is a family drama from Mongolia. It is about a Mongolian family living in the Gobi desert and their struggles to reunite a camel and her rejected calf. I have heard it is a good film. I am not sure if I'll make it out to see this one.

There are two other limited release films opening, but not near me. Robert Redford's The Clearing about a kidnapping victim, and De-Lovely, the bio-pic about Cole Porter starring Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd. I'll write more about them if the open up near me.
