Jerry Goldsmith has died. He passed away of cancer at the age of 75. For those unfamiliar with him, he was an Oscar nominated film composer who has worked on films since the 1950's. His credits include: In Like Flint, Planet of the Apes, Logan's Run, Chinatown, The Omen, Star Trek the Motion Picture, Alien, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, LA Confidential, and The Sum of All Fears. He had a prolific and successful career. He also worked in television including Gunsmoke, Twilight Zone, The Man from UNCLE, and the various Star Trek series. He was nominated for 18 Academy Awards of which he won one time for Original Score for The Omen in 1977, his last nomination was in 1999 for the core to Mulan. His talent is a great loss to the world of film. My heart goes out to his family in their time of mourning.
