This is a 3 disk set which includes both the theatrical release and the original cut which is about 10 minutes longer. It also has a couple of commentaries, outtakes, documentaries, and all sorts of fun stuff. I haven't gotten to watch any of it yet, but it is a great film showcasing Smith's unique sensibilities. Not too side track too much, but it seems as if Smith is a love him or hate him type of personality. His directing style is almost non-existent, he puts the camera in place and that's it, where he shines is in his writing, oh what wonderful dialogue, some of it does fall flat. Also, some great casting choices. For off-beat humor fans, or current/former clerks, this is a must see!
The other nominees and notable releases:
- Dawn of the Dead: Ultimate Edition. Three versions of the movie, documentaries and more on one of the greatest zombie flicks of all time!
- Ladykillers. The Coen Brothers and Tom Hanks, together? Very underrated.
- The Punisher. Not terribly good, but strangely fun.
- Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning. I still haven't watched the second, but this is a fun werewolf series.
- Jersey Girl. Kevin Smith goes straight with mixed results.
- Red Heat: Special Edition. Arnie action classic.
- Resident Evil: Deluxe Edition. Not a good zombie movie, but I still liked it, not sure if I need a deluxe release though.
- Strangers on a Train: Special Edition. How can you go wrong with Hitchcock?
- Kaena: The Prophecy. Not terribly familiar with what this is, but it looks interesting. Features the voice of Kirsten Dunst.
- Alias: The Complete Third Season. One of my favorite TV shows.
- Angel: Season Four. ANother favorite, sadly cancelled.
- Magnum PI: The Complete First Season. Tom Selleck and a Ferrari, if that doesn't scream Cool...
- Keen Eddie: The Complete Series. A quirky cop drama/comedy, wish it was still on.
- Mork and Mindy: The Complete First Season. A goofy alien who came here in an egg, I'm smiling already.
- Martian Chronicles. I haven't seen this, but I've read many good things.
A lot of good looking titles this week, and this fall is shaping up to have a huge number of high profile releases to look forward to. Good luck keeping up with them!
