This is one of the strangest films I have ever seen. It is about a woman who runs a beer brewery holding a contest to, you guessed it, find the saddest music in the world. The film evokes the silent era, with it's grainy black and white look. Add to that a Willy Wonka on acid like attitude. Pitting world music acts against each other in face off battles, an odd pair of brothers, a father vs son battle. And also lets not forget beer filled prosthetic legs. This is one of the most bizarre films I have ever seen.
It is one of those movies that not many people are aware of, but for those of you with skewed film views and an appreciation for the strange, this is a movie for you.
There are a bunch of other notable releases this week too:
- Elf. A wonderful holiday film for the whole family. A new classic.
- Chronicles of Riddick: Unrated Director's Cut. A guilty pleasure, dumb but fun action flick. Sadly this could have been so much more.
- Iron Giant: Special Edition. Before The Incredibles, Brad Bird brought us this.
- The Rise and Fall of ECW. This looks like a good set chronicling the the "extreme" side of wrestling.
- Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 3. A wonderfuly bizarre cartoon.
- Space Ghost Coast to Coast Volume 2. What if a cartoon superhero had a late night talk show?
- Smallville Season 3. Superman's early years make for great TV.
- Pee Wee's Playhouse. Who doesn't remember this surreal kids show? All 5 seasons will be available.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 7. The series draws to a close....
- Aragami. Ryuhei Kitamura's answer to a filmmaking challenge.
- Buck Rogers: The Epic Series. Cheesy sci-fi at it's glorious best.
- The Hebrew Hammer. I saw this on Comedy Central, very funny movie starring Adam Goldberg.
- Eminem: Encore. The highly anticipated next album from the controversial star.
- WWE: Theme Addict: The Music Vol. 6. The next collection of WWE entrance themes.
- Fear Factory: Bite the Hand That Bleeds: & Related Archetypal Imagery. A CD-single/DVD combo featuring 5 videos from their latest album, any fan of metal should be checking out these guys.
