New Releases

Only a couple of new additions to the cineplexes to report this week.

Boogeyman. Yet another pg-13 horror movie that is expected to satisfy the modern horror connoisseur, when will they learn? I thought the trailers looked intriguing, like it may actually be a good horror film, but then I saw the rating. It boggles the mind that they can run a commercial where they compare the title baddie to Freddy and Jason, unless you're rated R you can't even come to the party.

The Wedding Date. This looks like a week attempt at capturing the magic of Pretty Woman. I don't think it looks all that entertaining, as for romantic comedies, I think I will wait for the upcoming Bride and Prejudice.

Hotel Rwanda. I've been wanting to see this for awhile now. I think that Don Cheadle is a great actor, he has a wonderful way of inhabiting all sorts of different characters, and it looks like he really showed what he can do in this film. I will definitely be making a trip to see this one.

Days of Being Wild. This 1991 film from Wong Kar Wai is getting a three day/three show engagement at the local arthouse. It looks interesting, I will admit to being not terribly familiar with his work, but he is highly regarded in the international film community and this does feature some A-list talent, including Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau, and Andy Lau. If I can, I will try to catch this one.
