New Movie Releases.

We have a nice selection of movies hitting the screens this week. There seems to be a little something for a variety of audiences. Much better than recent weeks. Let’s get right to it, shall we?

The Interpreter. Sydney Pollack’s latest offering looks good. It is about a United Nations interpreter who overhears a plot to kill one of the representatives. It stars a pair of first rate actors in Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman. Judging by the trailers it looks to have good deal of suspense and a bit of action, I just hope it doesn’t become a generic thriller.

King’s Ransom. I don’t know much about this one, but it looks like a comedy surrounding the kidnapping of a famous person. It stars Anthony Anderson, who has made a decent career as the sidekick, stepping into a lead role, and also Jay Mohr. The trailer looks like it may be fun.

A Lot Like Love. The latest entry from Ashton Kutcher, hot on the heels of the surprisingly decent Guess Who? It co-stars Amanda Peet. This looks as if it could a halfway decent relationship movie. Kutcher gets a lot of flak, but I think he could grow into a decent actor, he just needs some good roles, Butterfly Effect showed that he could do something other than comedy. We shall see how this one turns out.

Kung Fu Hustle. This is the one I have been waiting for. It looks absolutely absurd, and I cannot wait to see it on the big screen. It is the latest from director/star Stephen Chow, the madman who was also behind Shaolin Soccer. I have no idea what the plot is supposed to be for this, but it doesn’t matter. I can’t wait.

Oldboy. The latest from director Chan Wook Park, also behind the great JSA – Joint Security Area. I have been waiting to see this for a while. It is a tale of a man imprisoned for an unknown reason and released 15 years later, with 5 days to figure it out. I have heard so many good things, I am so there.

Look At Me. Another film with good word preceding it. I am not terribly sure what the story is, but the trailer looked fun. T looks to be about a daughter trying to get the attention of her inattentive father. I may have to check this one out as well.
