New Movie Releases.

Can anything touch the Star Wars juggernaut? Possibly, I think of this weeks Madagascar has the best chance. Still, it will be tough journey if last weekend was any indication.

The Longest Yard. I never saw the original 1974 film, but I may see this one. It places Adam Sandler in the Burt Reynolds role, while Reynolds moves up into the coach role. It is about a former football star who winds up in prison heading up a team of misfits in a football game against the guards. Helping support Sandler are Chris Rock, Michael Irvin, Nelly, James Cromwell, and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

Madagascar. The latest computer generated film to grace the screen is upon us. I haven't made up my mind yet. It doesn't take the realistic approach to it's animation like The Incredibles did, rather it heads in the opposite direction, it has a very angular cartoony look. It features the voice talents of Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Cedric the Entertainer, and Andy Richter. It concerns a group of zoo animals who end up back in the native land they know nothing about. I hope it';s good.

Layer Cake. Matthew Vaughn's directorial debut follows in the tradition of Trainspotting, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. It is about a guy who wants to live the straight life, but has a couple more jobs to finish first. I have only seen the trailer for this, but it looks really good. Vaughn is currently workin on the third X-Men movie.

Mad Hot Ballroom. A documentary about a group of children preparing for the New York City ballroom dancing competition. This looks like a fun movie.

Anyway, that about does it for this week.
