Land of the Dead, the quadrilogy over 30 years in the making, and probably unintended. Some people just have a knack for telling certain stories. Lucas has the 40's serial type style, Lynch has a corner for the bizarre, Burton does the quirky, Kubrick was sparse, and Romero has the zombies.
George A. Romero has a way with zombies. I'm not sure what it is. What is it that makes a Romero zombie better than other zombies? Can't say. The original Night of the Living Dead was brilliant, the sequel Dawn of the Dead took it to the next level, then there was Day of the Dead which wasn't up to it's predecessor's level, but has grown in esteem over the years. Now we are face to face with the fourth, and probably final, trip into Romero zombie land. Just don't confuse matters with those unofficial Italian sequels.
This latest trailer is exclusive to the internet, you won't be seeing this at your local megaplex. If you did, it would most definitely be red band, and probably be cut down. This trailer is not drastically different from what you have probably seen already. The difference here is that Romero is giving a little gift to the fans. Letting us have a taste, in a manner of speaking, of what to really expect from this trip. We get some glimpses of gore, a splash of blood, a bullet in the brain. The forecast is good.
The trailer is great. It has some pulsing rock style music, some great looking zombies, and a film that looks uniquely Romero-esque. On top of that, there is the lovely Asia Argento (daughter of Italian horror legend Dario Argento, who edited the European version of Dawn of the Dead), John Leguizamo, and the legendary Dennis Hopper with that great line: "Zombies really creep me out." Bring on the dead.
There are some little things in the trailer that I like as well. One is the noise that accompanies the reveal of the text, a strange scraping like sound. The other is the voice for the narration, it reminds me of the voice used on the old trailers. Great stuff.
