I haven't found any full reviews of the disk, but it looks like the sole extras are a couple of featurettes and a trailer. I would have liked to have seen (heard?) a commentary on the disk.
This was Steve Martin's first starring film, and guaranteed him work for years to come. I remember finding this to be absolutely hilarious. Steve growing up a poor black child to become a millionaire. I can't wait to see this one again.
Other releases this week:
- Errol Morris Film Collection (Gates of Heaven, The Thin Blue Line, Vernon, Florida). These films will also be available separately. I have only seen The Thin Blue Line, which is a fantastic film which saved a man from death row.
- Gate of Flesh: The Criterion Collection. Criterion releases another Seijin Suzuki film. I have only seen a couple of his films, but they are visually striking, and at times very strange.
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Vol. 7. This series marches on. I have only watched the first couple of volumes, but have liked it a lot.
- Danzig: Il Demonio Nera. The second collection of hand picked videos from the vaults of the Godfather of Goth.
- Samurai Champloo Vol. 4. Another highly entertaining anime series blending hip hop and samurais. From the creator of Cowboy Bebop.
- Steamboy. An anime film from the creator of Akira.
- The Upside of Anger. This one went through theaters quickly despite the good word surrounding Joan Allen's performance. Also stars Kevin Costner.
- xXx: State of the Union. Could have and should have been much better. What could have been the start of an interesting anthology quickly degenerates into a typical action film.
That is all.
