The Trailer Park: The Aristocrats

I remember reading about this a while back, and promptly forgot about it. That being the case, I was not sure what I was about to see when I clicked on the link to view the trailer. And while it is not terribly exciting visually, I am now interested in seeing this movie.

It is an exercise in improv comedy, which is reportedly terribly obscene, but also terribly funny. It also acts as a who's who of comedy. George Carlin, Drew Carey, Paul Reiser, Bob Saget, Whoopi Goldberg, Eric Idle, Lewis Black, Jason Alexander, Andy Dick, Phyllis Diller, and more appear, lending their talents to a film with the tag line "No Nudity, No Violence, Unspeakable Obscenity." The film is an exercise in the variety of ways to tell the dirtiest joke in the world.

This is an interesting case, it appears that the AMC theater chain has banned it from being shown at any of it's theaters. The ultimate reason they give is "narrow appeal," meaning they don't think it will sell tickets. This is interesting to me, it is a low budget documentary about telling dirty jokes featuring some of the biggest names in comedy, how could that not be a draw? How many people do you know like dirty jokes? Probably most of them, there is your audience. This seems to be an arbitrary decision, after showing John Water's nympho-film A Dirty Shame, last year. I know, this is a low budget film that was not destined for a huge release, but what happens to future filmmakers who make edgy films, with this supposed "narrow appeal"? How does one come to this decision? Also interesting is this coming on the heels of their "money back guarantee" for Cinderella Man, see here.

Anyway, this is scheduled to be coming to my local arthouse in August, and I am hoping to get a chance to see it.
