A Television Viewer's Diary: 9/3-9/10

WARNING: The free form ramblings continue, be prepared for run-ons, incomplete thoughts, and atrocious punctuations. This is what happens to a mind on TV, it's not pretty, but kind of fun.

The above will now be the standard warning for this weekly dose of what I watched. It will probably get worse as the new season gets into fill swing.

Sunday 9/4.

  • Wanted. I want to like this show, it has moments of brilliance, but more often than not it just doesn't continue to hold me. This episode has the team setting up their on porn shop to draw out a Russian gangster who has been targeting the shops of LA. A mistake puts one of their own at risk, and threatens to tear the team apart. Not sure how long I'll continue with this show. **.5

Monday 9/5.

  • WWE:Raw. The show opened with Angle making quick work of Eugene, this will probably be his last appearance for awhile. There was the debut, of what I assume will be a new tag team of Val Venis and Viscera, they took care of the Heartthrobs. There was another tag team debut of Cade and Murdoch who beat Hurricane and Rosey in a non title match. Overall it was a decent show. ***
  • Prison Break. This shows promise of breaking out as a favorite of mine. It is over the top and not terribly realistic, but the characters are captivating. Michael is making friends and enemies like no tomorrow. The details escape me as I write this, but I am looking forward to next week. ***.5
  • The Closer. The season finale was good, but I don't know how it ended, as I forgot that it was 70 minutes, so if you know how it ended, please share! I really need to start writing this earlier in the week when the details are still fresh in my mind. I know a complaint was lodged against Brenda for her treatment of other agencies, the rest of the crew stood up for her. That led to a funny segment, that I remember, of Brenda apologizing to the other agencies. I look forward to it's return. ***

Tuesday 9/6.

  • Miami Ink. Continuing it's entertaining streak. Mark Zupan came into the shop for some work, he is the spokesman for the US quad rugby team and one of the subjects of the great documentary Murderball. The guys do some good work, the most impressive being this massive backpiece, an eagle. ***
  • Rescue Me. The last week before the finale. Mike thinks he may have cancer and turns to Sean for help. Chief's wife attempts suicide. Tommy has to deal with the return of his estranged sister, which puts a lot of strain on the family. The episode closes with a tragic accident involving Tommy's son and a drunk driver. ****

Wednesday 9/7.

  • Over There. Another winner. The crew assist in guarding a makeshift prison which leads to some troubles with a prisoner threatening to blow them all up, and Smoke's growing reputation. Mrs. B goes home to see her autistic son, and goes AWOL, and Bo doesn't want to be seen as an invalid and lashes out at his wife. ***.5

Thursday 9/8.

  • Reunion. I am withholding judgment until I see another episode or two. I like the concept, but there may be a bit too much soap opera injected here. I can't recall a show where teen characters said "love" so much, I found it a little off-putting. But we shall see where it goes. **.5
  • Starved. Sam goes vegan for his new girlfriend, and goes through a drastic personality shift. The breaking point was reached when she forces him to nurse a cockroach back to life after the inadvertant killing of a water bug. Meanwhile, one of his friends goes on a binge prior to having gastric bypass, and ends up having a heart attack. This still grows on me. ***

Friday 9/9.

  • Stargate: SG-1. Not nearly as good as in previous seasons, but still acceptably fun. This has the team going to a planet in search of a splinter group of Jaffa. They are attacked and Mitchell is taken captive. Before long, a Prior(William B. Davis) arrives at the village, where Mitchell must convince the leader (Tony Todd) that they are not wanted. But he also has to deal with a battle to repay for the death of a fellow warrior. It was fun, I am enjoying Browder's presence on the show. ***
  • Stargate: Atlantis. Following last weeks encounter with the "tamed" Wraith, Shepherd is starting to turn into a bug. The only hope is to get some of the bugs eggs which they can use in creation of an antidote, but will they make it in time? Of course things go wrong, and Shepherd himself is sent on the mission. This was a decent episode, the Shepherd character is growing on me. ***
  • Battlestar Galactica. Continuing to stand on top of the sci fi world as the best in production television show, not to mention one of the better shows currently running. This episode was good, slightly different on the format. In an effort to help the reunification of the fleet, a reporter is allowed full access to Galactica. This leads to increased tensions, and a new look at what is going. Then the end, that kinda left me floored. If you aren't watching this series, you should be. ****

Saturday 9/10.

  • WWE: Smackdown. The debut of Smackdown on Friday's didn't go off without a hitch. The first hour was cut for the Hurricane Relief, but it was already being pre-empted in New York for the Yankees game, and rescheduled for Saturday. So I got to see it all. It started with a tag match with the champs, Heidenreich and Animal, take on MNM, and retaining. Then Ken Kennedy beat Paul London with his cool finisher. Next newcomer Paul Burchill beat Scotty with an armbar submission. The second hour, where the rest of the country picked it up, opened with the great Eddie Guerrero v Rey Mysterio in a steel cage. Then another destruction of Orlando Jordan by Chris Benoit. Finally the decent bull rope match between Batista and JBL, with Batista retaining. ***
  • The Man with the Screaming Brain.

End. Transmission.
