I cannot recall the last time I saw a film open at number 1, leave the spot for a few weeks, and then return to the top, at least not for the brief time I've been checking the numbers. Narnia has been a good draw across the board in all age groups, but is proving to be a good attraction for families looking for a movie outing.
There were no new entries to the top ten films, just a reshuffling of what was already there. Four of those films did not even change their position. This lack of any real change does not lend me much to talk about. I have seen a few more of these films so I could give a few comments on those. Would you be interested in that? No? Oh well, I am going to write anyway.
First I saw The Ringer. This turned out to be a very funny movie, Johnny Knoxville played the role as well as anyone could. I think what surprised me the most was how good natured it was, and how respectful it was of those with disabilities. This is no classic by any stretch, but provided a number of laugh out loud moments.
I also got to see Fun with Dick and Jane. This turned out to be not so much fun. There were a couple of funny moments and some good ideas, but the script just never comes together. It should have been left in the oven a little longer, rather they jumped the gun and the result was half baked.
Lastly, I saw Memoirs of a Geisha. This movie had me captivated from start to finish. I had heard mixed reactions heading in, so I kept my expectations in check. The movie turned out to be gorgeously shot and populated with interesting characters. It offers a glimpse into another culture. My only question is how authentic is it?
Well that does it for this week. Be sure to come back next week to see if there were any changes to the listings. I am foreseeing Hostel cracking the top 5, and possibly top 3.
