It is being reported by Variety that writer/director Guillermo Del Toro is booked for the better part of the next decade. First on the docket is The Hobbit that he has blocked out the next five years for, working with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. Beyond that, he has a three year first look deal with Universal. However you want to slice it, the man is going to be busy for some time, and the projects he is eyeing are an interesting combination of remakes and new projects.
Among the films he is sizing up are remakes of Frankenstein, Slaughterhouse Five, and Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. Plus there is the adaptation of the novel Drood, which is believed to be the first project he will tackle post-Hobbit. On top of all that, Del Toro still has intentions of finishing his Hellboy Trilogy, something I would gladly welcome.
It is amazing what a film can do. I could be wrong, but I suspect that a lot of this attention stems from his incredible Pan's Labyrinth. He has turned in a number of good films before that and he has an insane amount of enthusiasm for film and all the projects he turns his eye on, but it was not until Pan's that he really got a large amount of critical attention.
All I can really say is that I have been a fan for some time and look forward to whatever he delivers.
