Hotel for Dogs. (2009, 100 minutes, PG, comedy, trailer) This looks like an enjoyable little film for the family audience. It centers on Andi and Bruce, their new foster family does not allow pets. Now they need to find a new home for their dog. They stumble across an old abandoned hotel where Bruce uses his penchant for gizmos to set the place up to take care of their beloved pet, and all of his pals. The situation escalates until the neighbors become suspicious of all the barking. Nothing special, but could be a little fun. The case includes Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, and Don Cheadle.
My Bloody Valentine: 3D. (2009, 101 minutes, R, horror, trailer) Yay! A horror film that is rated R! These seem to be few and far between. I only hope that it is at least halfway decent. It is a remake of the 1981 slasher about the town that doesn't celebrate Valentine's Day. The big thing they are selling this film on is the 3D, this scares me that the whole film is based on a gimmick. I guess we will see. It does look like fun, despite the goofy trailer.
Notorious. (2009, 122 minutes, R, drama, trailer) This could prove interesting. This biopic takes a look at the life of the Notorious BIG, from his youth as a drug dealer, to his rise as a rap sensation, to his tragic murder. The trailers look pretty good, although I have to wonder if the movie will appeal to a mainstream audience? could be interesting.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop. (2009, 87 minutes, PG, comedy, trailer) Here is a movie that does not appear to have any real reason to exist. Still, I want to see it, as itellectually bankrupt as it appears to be. Kevin James stars as a mall cop (duh) named Paul Blart (double duh) who is not terribly well equipped for his position. He is put to the test when some robbers invade and take over the mall and Paul has to fight to protect his mall.
Defiance. (2008, 136 minutes, R, war, trailer) This film is based on a true story. It centers on three brothers (Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell) who flee to the woods they have known since their youth. From there they strike back at the Nazis. Word of their daring spreads, and the brothers become the guardians of Jews seeking to escape the Nazi horror. The film looks quite good and I look forward to checking it out.
Last Chance Harvey. (2008, 92 minutes, PG-13, romance) This one looks like it could be good. Dustin Hoffman plays Harvey a man who finds himself on the outside looking in at his daughter's wedding, not to mention losing his job. While seeking some alcohol fueled happiness, he meets a woman (Emma Thompson) who seems to be nearly equally unhappy in her life. The two form a friendship and begin to fall in love.
