Universal pictures is ramping up a production of the classic tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Why they have chosen to go with Keanu Reeves in the lead is beyond me.
Now, don't get me wrong, I like Reeves. He may not be a terribly good actor, but he always puts himself out there in a variety of roles, for better or worse. I just have to question whether or not his particular skill set is right for the dual roles of Jekyll an Hyde. Reeves tends to be rather one note in his performances and you would think that this film would require a little more than he could offer. Well, one can hope that whoever helms he film knows how to bring out the animal in Reeves, so to speak.
The movie is planned to be a modern update set in the present. Justin Haythe has signed on to pen the screenplay. Haythe's most recent work was Revolutionary Road. That said, I am expecting plenty of yelling to go along with some stiff acting.
