The Tooth Fairy
Last week was spotlighted by another jaw-dropping weekend by Avatar combined with the surprisingly awesome The Book of Eli. This week I would not be surprised to see Avatar come out on top again, but then the competition is not all that strong. Now, it is only local anecdotal evidence, but there is only one new release this week that I am interested in. Any idea which it is?
Extraordinary Measures. (2010, 106 minutes, PG, drama) When I first saw the trailer I was rather surprised to find Harrison Ford. As for Brendan Fraser, as much as I like the guy I am not terribly shocked to see him here. This is based on a true story and I am not talking ill of the reality, but this movie does not look good. The production looks cheap, the dialogue silly, the drama overwrought, and it really looks dull. Ford plays a medical researcher who may be onto the only way to save Fraser's sick children. This movie looks like it should be on the Lifetime network but somehow lost its way and ended up on the big screen.
Legion. (2010, 100 minutes, R, action) This could be fun. It looks to be rather schlocky and would not appear to be destined for greatness, but I have already been surprised by films this year so you never know. This tells the story of a time when God loses faith in humanity and sends his angels to exterminate the human race. The last hope for humanity is a run down diner and a rag tag group of survivors with the aid of Archangel Michael who has gone rogue. Paul Bettany stars as Michael and is jouned by Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Charles S. Dutton, and Adrianne Palicki. Scott Stewart directs, making his feature debut.
The Tooth Fairy. (2009, 102 minutes, PG, family comedy) Now, I cannot be the only one who thinks this looks terrible. I'm not alone, right? Dwayne Johnson plays a star hockey player who disappoints his daughter by denying the existence of the tooth fairy. Now, he is sentenced to serve time as a tooth fairy. I feel so bad for Johnson, he is not a bad actor, can be very funny, and seems to be the perfect candidate for an action star. Joining him are Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, and Billy Crystal.

Box Office Predictions
Will it take six weekends? Could it really have it in it? I am going to say yes. Its run has been phenomenal and Avatar could have another weekend in it. It is amazing that it has not dropped below $40 million in a weekend yet. It will do that this weekend. The big question is how will the rest of the chart shake out?
