Robin Hood
Last week Iron Man conquered the box office with a take that topped $128 million.Will any of this week's releases come anywhere close to that? Probably not. However, we do have more of a selection of new titles to choose from. Comedy, action, romance. Surely there is something that will get you into the theater. Perhaps even to catch up on a movie you missed or to see Iron Man 2 again.
Just Wright. (2010, 111 minutes, PG, romantic comedy) As I watch the trailer for this movie, I feel no desire to go and see it. I am not saying it is a bad movie, but it does not look terribly exciting. It feels terribly familiar and I think we see enough in the trailer to guess where it is going to go as it does not appear to be the sort of movie to push boundaries. If there is one thing that could be the saving grace of the movie, it is Queen Latifah. She is a good actress and has incredible amounts of charisma that makes her a joy to watch on the big screen. She stars as a physical therapist who finds herself in charge of rehabbing a sar basketball player played by Common. The adversarial relationship gradually takes a turn for the romantic with comedic escapades that allow their relationship to grow.
Letters to Juliet (2010, 104 minutes, PG, romance) Here is a movie that I do not believe will be all that good, however I still feel drawn to it. It looks sweet and innocent and sometimes that is just what we need, something that will cleanse the palette. Amanda Seyfried stars as a young woman on vacation in Italy who visits the wall where people place letters of to Juliet of unrequited love. She finds one that she feels compelled to answer and what follows as a journey to find lost love and discover new ones. Wow, that sounds awfully corny. Still, I suspect I am going to see this one.
Robin Hood. (2010, 140 minutes, PG-13, period action) A new take on the Robin Hood story? All right. Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe? I'm listening. Trailer looks pretty good, I hope the movie is. I just have this feeling in the back of my head that this may be Gladiator 2. That's just silly talk, right? This does look exciting and a tad more serious than the last two Hood films I can think of, Prince of Thieves and Men in Tights. Crowe plays the title role and leads his band of renegades against a corrupt sheriff and take on the crown. I want to like this, but I have my doubts.

Iron Man 2 dominated last weekend and looking at the possibility of taking a second weekend crown. As I look at the new competition, I cannot believe that any of them will pose much of a threat. Robin Hood is sure to do well, but Iron Man 2 is going to be the biger draw this weekend. The other two openings should do decent but are far from surefire A-list releases.
