Netflix'ns is a series of review shorts of films discovered on Netflix, be it DVD or streaming. For better or worse, I sat through these films and have lived to tell the tale. These are not so much reviews as just comments on the film watched. This is also a work in progress.
This Full Moon Pictures release brings together characters from three of their other films. Tim Thomerson reprises his as Brick from Dollman, Tracy Scoggins as Judith from Demonic Toys, and Melissa Behr as Nurse Ginger from Bad Channels. That last one is the only one I have not yet seen (although I plan on changing that).
Dollman vs. Demonic Toys is a short film clocking in at just 64 minutes. Factor in lengthy opening and closing credits and recycled footage of those three prior films and you have a movie that clocks in pretty short. The end result is an uneven mash made to profit off prior success. That is exactly the goal of this crossover. I suspect Full Moon Pictures has maintained profitability by its output volume, so they occasionally put together these titles so that you may be so inclined to check out the originals. Yes, it is a shoddy way to treat fans, but I don't begrudge them for doing it, no matter how much I would like to see a more developed take on the concept (not that any of their movies are all that well developed).
The movie opens with Dollman on the road, a voice over talks of a woman shrunk by aliens. Seems to be a situation right up his alley, so he heads off to find Nurse Ginger. Meanwhile, Judith is still tracking the Demonic Toys, they apparently didn't perish in their film (due to the appearance of a random homeless guy). She heads into a toy warehouse guns blazing. That approach doesn't work too well.
Well, long story short, Judith tracks down Dollman, and they head off with Ginger to the toy factory to take down the toys. This story is wedged in between lengthy flashbacks and never really gains much traction. Once they re in the toy warehouse the dolls shoot at each other, sneak around in darkness that obscures almost everything, and cackle, scream, and spout one liners at each other.
Yes, I'll admit I enjoyed this a little but, but it really is only for the completist. For the most part you are better served by the regular films. I mean this looks cheap even by Full Moon standards!
