Netflix'ns is a series of review shorts of films, new and old, seen on Netflix, be it DVD or streaming. For better or worse, I sat through these films and have lived to tell the tale. These are not so much reviews as just comments on the film watched. Some will be first time views, others will be revisits. This is a work in progress.
I must admit to being a big fan of the recent low-budget/high-gore offerings coming out of Japan. This includes movies like Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police, Frankenstein Girl vs Vampire Girl, and RoboGeisha. They have creativity, energy, and a willingness to take it all as far as they can that I love. They are definitely not for all tastes. Anyway, while looking for other movies like that, I came across Hard Revenge Milly from director Takanori Tsujimoto with gore effects by Yoshihiro Nishimora (who has directed a few of these gore flicks).
Hard Revenge Milly is not a long film, clocking in at 43-minutes, nor is it the bloodiest or most over the top. What it is, however, is a more serious take on the genre, combining the gore flick with a standard revenge tale. As you can probably guess, it does not have a heck of a lot of story, but it does work.
In a near apocalyptic future Milly is forced to watch her husband and baby viciously killed by a gang of thugs. She isn't let off easy, she is left for dead. A mad doctor saves her and patches up her wounds with some "improvements" to aid her in having revenge. We pick up her story as she is on her way to take out the bad guys.
There is a bloody bit in the beginning followed by a stretch that shows flashbacks to what led her to this point before concluding with the best bit of the film, the final showdown. The fight is well staged and we get a couple more surprises. It may be short, but it is worth checking out. It is followed by a longer sequel, Hard Revenge Milly: The Bloody Battle. (also on Netflix Instant!)
