Ten years ago Adam Green introduced us to little fella named Victor Crowley. Seeking to give the world a new slasher icon, he enlisted Jason Voorhees veteran Kane Hodder to play the role of Crowley in the movie Hatchet. The slasher went on to feature in three films, none of which garnered any respect from the MPAA. I believe it was the second entry that opened in theaters and got pulled out by midweek. It is a shame, I would have loved to see any of them on the big screen. The series was not universally loved (what is?) but I know I quite liked it. Here we are, years since we thought the Hatchet universe was finished, learning that a fourth film has been made, yes made, and is going on tour this October. Count me in.
Here is the teaser for the film, titled Victor Crowley:
It doesn’t give much away, but I am quite excited to see it. This entry has one returning character, Parry Shen’s Andrew Yong. As the one survivor of the previous massacre, he has spent years trying to get people to believe the story of Victor Crowley. I guess folks were more willing to believe he was the killer. In any case, this movie sees the return of the monstrous killer.
I am sure this is going to be packed to the gills with gore and fun. I cannot say the Hatchet movies are particularly great, but I do have a soft spot for them. They have that old school slasher feel, but still feel modern. I do enjoy the kills and Kane Hodder is just a beast in these flicks.
I can only imagine what it was like for that audience thinking they were seeing an anniversary screening of Hatchet and being surprised with this! It will be going on tour in October, so I would recommend keeping an eye out for dates if you are interested.
In addition to Hodder and Shen, the cast includes Dave Sheridan (The Devil’s Rejects), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and Tiffany Shepis (The Black Room, Tales of Halloween). Of course, Adam Green is back as writer and is stepping back into the directorial duties after not directing the third entry.
There is no poster yet, so here is a kill recap:
